Leonard Dembo,Oliver Mtukudzi,Winky D,Tonderai Kingpinn Makoni,Joshua Nkomo,Josiah Tongogara,Mbuya Nehanda,Kirsty Coventry and other ladies and gentlemen cut from that special fabric might have practiced different disciplines but they have one thing in common. They all gave their all to their respective disciplines and as a result they excelled in their chosen paths and became the set standard for excellence in their fields. As a result they are widely celebrated as icons, pioneers with many a young African King/Queen aspiring to reach the levels these icons reached.
Enter Iconic Festival an initiative by a group of young visionaries who are quite determined to unearth Zimbabwe's next set of luminaries by giving young talent a chance to shine and a platform to showcase what they are made of.The platform in question will be the first ever Zimbabwean edition of the Iconic Fest slated for April.Disciplines that will be given a chance to shine include music, fashion and dance. As if thats not enough Iconic Fest is set to hold a videotapping of their Rap Cyphers on the 25th of January in Harare to drum up support for the main Festival in April.
No man is an island is an adage the folk at Iconic understand and they have a pretty solid team working flat out to make the event a success. At the helm is Mr Gwarada aka Chap Moreno who is the CEO while Cynthia handles everything to do with PR and communications strategy. In this digital world we operate in did it really happen if nobody captured it?In that department the Festival has Ngaa,Keith Sawari and Mia Nichole Jayson while Trey handles talent scouting .Ally Zihle Sikanyela completes the team in her role as inhouse writer.
As strong and as dedicated as the team is Chap Moreno and his team realised going at it alone would be a show of selfishness and stunt rather than grow the brand they are trying to build.Consequently he enlisted the help of some heavy hitters to help him bring his dream to reality through strategic partnerships. As such everything to do with dance will involve dance powerhouse Jibilika Dance Academy while music wise Beefy Harrison and his Zim Hip Hop Awards academy will chip in.The door is still very much open to other partnerships and interested players can reach out to @IconicFest on Facebook and Twitter or contact Chap directly on his line +263 774 7979 58
