He went from singing his little heart out on his songs like lonely,establishing a mega record label in the form of Konvict Music signing Lady Gaga and Red Cafe at one point and now he is showing the world what a big heart he has through his charity Akon Lighting Africa which aims to offer 600 million Africans renewable electricity in the near future.As if that is not enough Akon is building his own city in Senegal dubbed Akon City,here is what we know so far.
1.The city is a go
The Senegalese superstar who found musical success in America even getting a grammy nomination took to twitter to tell his followers paperwork concerning the city had been signed.The tweet in question reads "Just finalized the agreement for AKON CITY in Senegal. Looking forward to hosting you there in the future" and it was accompanied by a picture which showed Akon and two official looking gentlemen beaming in crisp suits and ties.
2.Akon City will have its own currency
Forget Franklins,Mandela money or RTGS dollars Akon City will be futuristic in its fiscal operations.Residents will use an ambitious cryptocurrency appropriately coined Akoins and Akon hopes the cryptocurrency will be embraced by other nations and cities beyond Senegal.
3. Akon City has Presidential backing
The city is being built on 2 000 acres of land gifted to Akon by Senegalese President Macky Sall.With Akon's pedigree and the uniquenes of this project this is a win win situation for everyone involved as tourists are likely to pour in by the dozens for a feel of Akon City.
4. Akon City and Renewable energy
Forget about making other moguls green with envy Akon City will make mother earth greener.The city will run on 100% renewable energy,solar to be exact.Supplying a whole city with green energy should be a walk in the park for Akon whose Akon Lighting Africa company currently boasts of operations in over 14 African countries.
5. Akon City will be teamwork personified
Akon has made known his ambitions to run for the office of POTUS against Trump and Kanye in previous interviews so it makes sense that he would collaborate with various gifted individuals in all he touches.Akon City will not be a solitary villain's playground.Instead Akon is willing to take a back seat and allow geeky experts to work out the technical complexities that may arise as he brings his one of a kind city to life.
