Enzo Ishal's catastrophic cart:Time for Introspection

A conversation about the new school in Zimdancehall minus Enzo Ishal might as well be a non event. The Kanjiva hitmaker burst onto the scene with a  number of hits that put paid to the 'one hit wonder' tag most artists get burdened with when they hit the big time. When all and sundry labelled his music one dimensional the lanky dancehall star who calls Chilspot Records home responded with the sentimental 'Matsimba' and statements like 'here to stay' started being thrown around. With no album out Enzo had fans eating out of the palm of his hand and accusations that he was Chilspot's favorite seemed ridiculous in the face of the hard work the lad was putting in.

However heavy is the head that wears the crown and his wins have had to share living space with a couple of Ls in recent times. At the risk of sounding like haters we  will say with our chest that Enzo has not been able to catch a break these past few months. For someone who used to dish out hit songs unprovoked bangers have been eluding Enzo and pressure from fans has not helped either. From the Passion Java sponsored 'Highest Score' to 'Mhamha' and his recent collaboration with Rachel J his new songs have not resonated as much with an impatient crowd that expects magic from its stars nomatter what.

Highest Score was peharps an attempt to reinvent himself and go the patois route but even radio which tried to force the song  down people's throats ended up not playlisting the song as much.Ngoro with Rachel J is another experiment in sound marrying dancehall with African sounds but the result sounds like a joint that failed to make Baba Harare's album.Maybe just maybe its time to return to the carefree Enzo of old who could turn even the most mundane topic into a hilarious account of ghetto happenings. Many more hits will come from him and him only so now is peharps the time to shut out all the voices seemingly in his corner and dig deep inside for that spark of brilliance that answers to noone but him.
